BEING PROVEN ON THE ROADS
1985, 97 min., b/w. Made in 1971 under original
title “‘Happy New Year’ Operation”. Drama.
Director: Alexey German, screenplay: Eduard Volodarsky (based on war stories by Yuri German),
camera: Yakov Sklyansky, production designer: Valeri Yurkevich, music: Isaak Shwarts, sound: Tigran Silayev.
Cast: Rolan Bykov, Vladimir Zamansky, Anatoli Solonitsyn, Oleg Borisov, Fyodor Odinokov, Aida Zaitse, Gennadi Dyudyayev, Nikolay Burlyayev, Viktor Pavlov, Maya Bulgakova.
Alexander Lazarev, a former Red Army sergeant,
finds himself in a German camp for prisoners of war. He
agrees to collaborate with the Nazis. Later, regretting his
cowardice, he joins a partisan detachment. There is a strong disagreement between the commander and the
commissar of the detachment over Lazarev. Finally, the
commander insists on giving Lazarev a chance: they will put him through the test in a reconnaissance operation
scouting out the area roads.
Award for Best Role to V. Zamansky at the 15th IFF in Freedom and Revolution in Sopot, Yugoslavia (1986).
Critics’s Award for the film at the IFF in Rotterdam,
Holland (1987).
At the traditional competition organized by the magazine “Soviet Screen” R. Bykov came second in the
category Actor of the Year 1985, and the film gained 3rd
place (1986).
State Prize of the USSR to E. Volodarsky. A. German,
V. Yurkevich, T. Silayev (posthumously) and V. Zamansky
(1988) for this film.
